| Gail Anne Brickwood suggested Eliza drowned while attempting to save her child: this story may have been confused with the later death of her daughter Madeline Mary, who drowned in the Elbe with her son in 1923. Name Eliza and date of death as given in family tree from her husband (Sir) John Brickwood. Research by Linda Smith records a monumental inscription at Highland Road Cemetery Horan Division Section A No 124, on a Miller family grave giving the name Lily M Brickwood, wife of John Brickwood of Southsea, died at Lisbon, 26th February 1889, aged 34. Probably called 'Lily' in the family because her mother also Eliza. |
